Whether you’re a jewellery enthusiast, gemstone appreciator or history lover, we’d like to tell you about something you won’t want to miss in Hong Kong next month.
This September, L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts is returning to Hong Kong for its third edition, taking up residence once again inside the Qube at creative design hub PMQ. As in previous years, the Paris-based jewellery school — supported by Van Cleef & Arpels — has prepared a two-week programme for all jewellery lovers and gem enthusiasts in Hong Kong; this year, however, you’ll have access to a range of courses that are even bigger and better than before.
For the 2017 edition, 10 courses are available to the public — 6 of which are brand-new — each of them specially tailor-made and categorised into three major themes: Art History of Jewellery, Savoir-Faire and The Universe of Gemstones. At these sessions, you can either discover the major aesthetic sources and symbols of different jewels from past to present, explore and experience the craftsmanship behind jewellery making, or take a journey to the centre of the earth and learn all about the origin and evolution of natural gemstones.
If you’re a creative, hands-on type of person, we’d suggest enrolling in one of the Savoir-Faire courses, as they’ll allow you to gain experience in hand-crafting jewellery pieces. History buffs will have much to learn from Art History of Jewellery courses, meanwhile, and science lovers will love The Universe of Gemstones courses. Clearly, there’s a bit of something for everyone at L’ÉCOLE.
All courses will be conducted by L’ÉCOLE’s very own team of jewellery experts, art historians and gemologists, who will be flying in all the way from Paris. To encourage interactions between students and instructors, each session has only a limited number of 12 vacancies, and each class will meet in an immersive and creative space designed by Johnny Li, who took inspiration from aesthetics inspired by Hong Kong’s heritage.
That’s not all: For the younger members of the community, L’ÉCOLE is also hosting a series of creative workshops that specifically target those from the ages of 5 to 16 years old. Also held in small groups of 12, these workshops will offer children and teenagers a chance to create their own art objects using different materials, and discover the new sector of creative professions during the process.
